James Macdonald

James Macdonald had a career as a senior legal adviser with decades of experience in corporate law, governance and cross-border financial regulation. 

As a qualified lawyer in both Canada and Bermuda, James spent much of his career advising on public company transactions and insurance law. After an early legal role in Toronto, he returned to Bermuda in the 1980s to serve as Corporate Legal Officer at a Bermuda-headquartered bank. He later joined a leading offshore law firm in Bermuda, where he was promoted to partner and practised for 20 years before retiring in 2013. During his career, he was a director of a number of companies.

James holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School. He qualified as a lawyer in the Province of Ontario in Canada in 1981 and was called to the Bar in Bermuda in 1987. 

He is a British citizen and a Canadian citizen and holds Bermuda status.
