James Macdonald - Director (Lead Independent)
James Macdonald is a senior legal adviser and board director with decades of experience in corporate law, governance and cross-border financial regulation.
A qualified lawyer in both Canada and Bermuda, James spent much of his career advising on public company transactions and insurance law. After early legal roles in Toronto, he returned to Bermuda in the 1980s to serve as Corporate Legal Officer at a Bermuda-headquartered bank. He later joined a leading offshore law firm, where he was promoted to partner and practised for over 15 years before retiring in 2013.
James holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School. He is a British citizen with Bermuda status and was called to the Bar in Bermuda in 1987.
