Stephen joined Clarien as Executive Vice President, Chief Risk Officer in March 2016. As CRO, he oversees all aspects of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) across the Bank and its subsidiaries, ensuring risk-taking activities and exposures are in line with the company’s business objectives and in compliance with regulatory requirements for risk management. Stephen has more than 25 years international experience in designing, implementing and operating risk management frameworks for large financial institutions.
Prior to joining Clarien, he was Risk & Capital Management Practice Leader and Head of Advisory Services – Bermuda for Grant Thornton UK LLP where he was involved in implementing Basel II/ Capital Requirements Directive (CRD)-compliant risk management frameworks for small banks and investment managers, and advised insurance companies on Individual Capital Adequacy Standards (ICAS) and Solvency II readiness, including the design, building and implementation of Solvency II-compliant ERM Frameworks.
Stephen’s previous positions include: Senior Manager, Enterprise Risk Management Services at KPMG; Corporate Risk Manager, Rentokil-Initial plc, and Risk Management positions at Winterthur International (now XL Catlin) and Bowring Marsh & McLennan.
Stephen earned a Bachelor of Art degree in Risk Management from Glasgow Caledonian University. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Risk Management and has a Diploma in Insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute.
